A Side Note - Solar Eclipse, Anyone?

I am assuming that we could not see the solar eclipse today since I did not notice the daytime turning to night at any point of our sun-drenched day by the ocean. I mean, I would have caught that, right? Did anyone see it? Should it have at least darkened the sky a little bit?
